The Weller folks were in town for the weekend, so, after a great ride Saturday morning we all high-tailed it down to Manitou Springs for the weekend. They snagged a really snazzy B&B for us all to stay in called the
The Red Crags. It was a cool old Victorian with lots of rooms and sweet vintage touches. We got the top floor and split a suite between us. It was so nice & relaxing! Saturday night we went and ate dinner at the
Craftwood Inn. I usually stray from any and all meats, game, and poultry, but this menu was insane! I had to splurge. I got a Deer Roulade stuffed with smoked cheddar, porcinis, and onions. It was FREAKING INSANE! I'm still tasting it! The Wellers all go this delicious Marlin, and of course I had to sample. It's quite pricey, but VERY VERY VERY worth it.
Sunday, we did a few things here and there.

First, we went to Florissant to check out the Dinosaur/Fossil National Park. Basically the story is that a volcano wayyyy back in the day flooded the valley and killed off these super tall/huge trees. The stumps were preserved in the ash and subsequently dug up...and voila. These tree stumps that were left are ridiculously HUGE!

They've also hardend into rock as due to the process of something I don't understand. It has something to do with the ash and carbon and whatnot. Amy's dad knows...he knows EVERYTHING.
Later that same day we took the COG railway to the top of Pikes Peak. It was a beautiful ride.

It takes about 3hrs total up, stop at the top, and back down. Great views all the way into friggin Kansas! That night we went into Manitou for dinner, but everything was closed!?!? So, we trekked into C Springs, and everything was closed too?!?! Sparky, what the hell? Anyway, we had dinner at this one place and called it a night.
Monday am we took off to do a wild flower hike, then returned to Denver.

Traffic was virtually non-existent and it was quite eerie! After a quick recon of the state TT course, Amy & I regrouped and went food shopping to cook dinner at home. It was a TOTAL vacation. I never felt more relaxed, and, with all that's going on (house, job, blah blah blah) it was very needed!
