Sweet

This is just sweet! NOT. I somehow caught a cold late saturday afternoon into Sunday, and, it just got worse as the days have gone on!

Saturday, I woke up feeling wonderful. The weather was forecasted to be on the unpredicatble side, so, I erred on the side of caution, and just planned on heading out to Lookout, with the thought of going big on Sunday. I geared up for a day on the colder side, and, brought both my winter & summer weight caps with me in the event that the weather changed. As I rolled out, I quickly switched from the winter cap to the summer cap as it felt significantly warmer than I'd originally expected. The air was extremely damp and humid, so, being overdressed (which I was) could eventually pose a problem once I got too warm.

Anyway, as I headed out to Golden, I bumped into 2 guys I used to race with/against. Initially, I'd wanted to ride on my own, but, found out that the company was well needed. We climbed Lookout at a steady pace...somewhere between zones 2 & 3, and, they decided to whoop it up a bit about halfway up. I decidely sat up and let them go, as I wanted nothing to do with any sort of "efforts" since I'd felt like crap since Thursday's return to riding from 3 or so days off. On the descent it, was VERY chilly. The arms of my long sleeve jersey & base layers was soaked with sweat, and the cold air hitting my body just chilled me to the bone. In hindsight, I should have put the winter cap BACK on for the descent, and, added an extra layer (windproof shell or soemthing) that I had stuffed in my back pocket. For some reason though, I decided to just go on as-is. Big mistake!

Sunday, I woke up with a really scratchy throat, and, pretty fatigued & achey. I'd received an invitation to head to Ward with Mike & group, but, I was so out of it that I just couldn't ride for 5 hrs and climb up to Ward. I really wanted to, but, I opted for something way mellower with Darren & Nick. I could feel myself getting worse as the short ride went, but I pressed on thinking the heat would warm me up and kick my immune system in. No luck! About halfway through, my energy level just got ZAPPED and, eventually on the final leg home, I could barely pedal. I tried to eat, but, my appetite was gone too. This wasn't good! Eventually, when I made it home, I tried to feed myself a ton of food, and, while I got myself to eat, I just didn't want to.

We went food shopping and ran a few other errands, and, I could feel myself getting more and more tired as the day went on. After cooking a few meals for the week, I hit the couch like a ton of bricks. We watched Breaking Bad, and, I headed up to bed after a shower just completely wasted.

This morning, I woke up with a SUPER swollen throat and I am worked. Ughhh. I'm more pissed about the fact that I let Darren convince me I wasn't sick! I knew I should have just one home. Either way, the ride was nice and easy, and, while it probably screwed me from a health perspective, it was nice to get out.

For now, my goal is to just get better. I have no plans to ride until that happens which sucks because I really wanted to race Hugo this Saturday! POOP!

You have a date with Hugo. And I don't mean your Russian lover.
