Ok...so, Day 2 post Cortisone injection. Let me first recap Day 1...
Yesterday was an iffy day. I definitely had some pain at the injection site, as well as the typical discomfort at my ankle & knee, along with the normal crack/snap of my IT band in my left leg. I had an all-hands meeting off site I had to attend and the chairs they typically have are extremely uncomfortable. I typically find myself getting up after 20 minutes, and going to the back of the room to stand and/or inconspicuously stretch out the legs. My symptoms were getting worse and I started to lose faith in the treatment (yeah I know...1 day). However, after stretching a bit, I felt my body kinda loosen up. Additionally I found a nice door jamb to lean up against and absolutely crush the know that lived in my QL. Blammo. Once I got that spot my eyes literally crossed and I just stood there applying pressure for the next hour. Once the meeting was dismissed I startd walking back to the car, and noticed that my ankle was 100% normal, and, I had no nerve symptoms in my leg. WOW! I was jumping for joy...literally. I tested it out by trying to balance on my left leg once I got back to the house after work to really give the test, and it worked. Double wow! I decided to hit yoga and do some super light stretching. For once I felt normal. I forgot how good it feels!
Today more of the same. I have these phantom pains that come & go, but it's mainly in the area of the injection itself. My knee tracks better, and, the popping is pretty much gone. The KEY though is the ankle. That motion of dorsi-flexion in the pedal stroke (bringing the toes up) to plantar flexion (pushing the toes down) at the top of my pedal stroke does not elicit pain around my ankle. That pain and discomfort used to force me to lighten up on the down stroke, thereby compromising power to the pedals. I'm staying positive, and will begin riding again on Saturday. We'll ease into it, but, I assume I'll be fine for Wheels of Thunder, Kornfield (depending on the time!), as well as the Iron Horse.
I'm doing one more pro-active PT session early tomorrow morning to fully get aligned, and then, I think I'll just stick to yoga for a bit. It's pretty much the same price, so, I'll be supplementing the recovery either way.
More later!
